Abstract

The article begins with a national debate that has been given about the importance and potential of education in the conflict, violence and barbarism which crosses the Colombian society. Citizenship education has proven to be one of the educational proposals that can best contribute in building a different society. Here we make an analysis of the official view of citizenship education, which is part of the basic standards of citizenship skills taught by the Ministry of Education, contrasting with the general context of Colombian education policy in recent years. Then analyzed in order to present the two logics behind both trends, the option to retrain critical citizenship education that the school becomes a deliberative public space for the sake of building a truly democratic society.
