Abstract
Este trabajo presenta una revisión del capital social con el objetivo de identificar los vínculos que sostiene con la participación social, los valores y el empoderamiento. Esto con el fin de brindar la argumentación requerida para potenciar el fortalecimiento del capital social y promover, por lo tanto, el desarrollo humano.La prevalencia de cifras estadísticas en relación con la violencia, la inseguridad y algunos componentes del capital social sugieren su merma o fragilidad por lo que se vislumbra la posibilidad de transformar este recurso de la sociedad. Se plantean algunos vínculos entre variables como la reciprocidad, la confianza, la participación social y el empoderamiento que han sido estudiados por diversos autores. Se concluye con la mención de algunos aspectos favorables del desarrollo humano que se ven afectados por el capital social.
