THE EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE SKILLS APPLIED ON FIRST GRADE STUDENTS AND MOTHERS FROM THE INSTITUCIÓN EDUCATIVA LA PAZ

Abstract
This work summarizes the process and the results of the research “Emotional intelligence description of first grade children and mothers from the Institución Educativa La Paz.” Mayer & Salovey model (1997) was the theoretical model chosen. It was developed an explanatory understanding study with 37 first grade children of six to nine years and their mothers. In addition, three guides for identifying emotions in non-verbal expressions were designed; some phrases that promoted emotional self-consciousness and that identify emotions at classroom situations as well. On the other hand, interviews were employed with the mothers. Results suggest the most of children are situated in the perception, evaluation, and expression of emotions level. Just a few of them are able to reach the next levels; the case of mothers is the same. Besides of that, the research revealed the teacher importance as a meaningful figure and an emotional model considering his feelings and actions at the classroom and the pedagogical proposal.
